Who are we?
The Fort Worth Symphonic Band is a group of amateur musicians dedicated to preserving the traditional community band. The band is a non-profit corporation, completely self-supporting and unaffiliated with the City of Fort Worth. The band dates back to its founding in 1960, and we still have a charter member! We try to maintain an instrumentation of forty to fifty players, and our repertoire reflects the range of ability among our players.
When do we play?
Rehearsals are held year-round on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:50 pm, except for a four or five week hiatus around the New Year. We typically play about sixteen engagements in a year, trying -- not always successfully -- to schedule them on Monday evenings. Our venues include retirement communities, churches and annual events such as Memorial Day at Laurel Land Cemetery, the Handley Street Festival and the Concert-in-the-Park series in Cleburne.
What kind of music do we play?
Most of our repertoire consists of traditional concert band selections with over 1500 arrangements available to the band. Among our favorites are:
The Poet and Peasant Overture
New York, New York
God Bless America
Tribute to Louis Armstrong
The Phantom of the Opera
The Stars and Stripes Forever
We welcome compositions and arrangements by our members, giving each a reading and often programming these works.
Our concerts include instrumental and vocal solos, along with ensembles performed by our members.
Where do we rehearse?
The Riverside Recreation Center provides us with rehearsal space free of charge. The address is 3700 East Belknap Street, Fort Worth. For more information, link to the webpage on rehearsals using the Rehearsal Info button in the left column.

How do I join?
Membership in the band is open to musicians of any age who are willing to commit their time and talent to the degree that the rest of us can count on them. We think that a reasonable goal is attendance at 75% of our performances over a year’s time, though many of us exceed that goal year after year.
We do not encourage casual participation. Your commitment to this organization is vital to its success.
If you are interested in joining the band, plan to attend one of our rehearsals to see how you like us. After we get to know you, you will probably be invited to become a permanent member. It is a good idea to call or check our website before coming to a rehearsal to make sure that we do not have an engagement on the night in question.
Membership is also contingent upon payment of dues at the rate of $30.00 per year. Dues are waived for full-time college and high-school students.
Whom can I contact for more information?
